Gold Course

Pre-requisites:

Successful completion of the Lady & The Tramp Bronze and Silver Courses

or

A minimum of 2 years' experience as a Grooming Salon Assistant and looking to take the next step towards becoming a Professional Dog Groomer and Stylist.

Course Overview

The Gold Course is our advanced training programme, designed for students who are ready to develop the technical skills, confidence, and professional standards required to become a qualified Dog Groomer and Stylist.

Building upon the foundations learn't in the Bronze and Silver Courses, this programme focuses on the art of styling, precision finishing, and developing the practical techniques used by professional groomers every day.

Throughout the course, you'll work alongside experienced stylists, gaining valuable hands-on experience while learning how to produce high-quality pet trims that are tailored to each individual dog's breed, coat type, lifestyle, and the owner's expectations.

As well as mastering practical grooming techniques, you'll develop the confidence to work efficiently, communicate professionally with clients, and always prioritise the health, welfare, and comfort of every dog in your care.

Course Curriculum

Styling with Compassion

Build confidence in maintaining safe and effective handling techniques throughout the styling process. Learn how to support dogs comfortably during clipping and scissoring whilst adapting your approach to suit each dog's confidence, age, mobility, and temperament.

Pet Styling Techniques

Learn the principles of commercial pet styling, creating practical, attractive trims that suit both the owner's preferences and the dog's individual lifestyle. Understand how to adapt styles to account for coat condition, maintenance requirements, age, temperament, and health considerations.

Professional Styling Preparation

Learn how to prepare dogs efficiently before styling to achieve the highest standard of finish. Discover how correct bathing, drying, brushing, de-shedding, and coat preparation can significantly improve both the quality of your groom and your overall efficiency.

Time Management & Salon Efficiency

Develop techniques to work confidently and efficiently without compromising the welfare of the dog or the quality of your work. Learn how professional groomers organise their workflow, equipment, and appointments to maximise productivity in a busy salon environment.

Clippers, Blades & Attachment Combs

Gain a thorough understanding of clipper blades and attachment combs, including when and why each should be used. Learn how blade selection affects coat length, finish, and safety, enabling you to achieve consistent professional results.

Scissoring Techniques

Develop confidence using various types of scissors to create excellent finishing work. Learn correct scissor handling and body positioning to improve both precision and comfort during longer grooming sessions.

Safe Use of Grooming Equipment

Receive practical instruction in the correct use of clippers, blades, scissors, and other professional grooming tools. Learn techniques that promote accuracy, efficiency, and above all, the safety and comfort of every dog.

Grooming Tool Maintenance

Understand how to clean, disinfect, oil, store your grooming equipment correctly and when to get your blades sharpened. Regular maintenance not only extends the life of your tools but also ensures they perform safely and efficiently.

Client Consultations

Shadow an experienced Dog Stylist during client consultations to understand how professional groomers gather information, assess coat condition, discuss styling options, manage client expectations, and provide aftercare advice.

Understanding Canine Communication

Develop a deeper understanding of canine body language and behaviour during grooming. Learn to recognise signs of stress, anxiety, discomfort, and relaxation, allowing you to adjust your handling techniques to create a calm, positive grooming experience that prioritises each dog's emotional wellbeing.
