Groom Your Own Dog Course

Overview

This bespoke course is designed for owners to learn grooming techniques by practicing directly on their own dogs.

 

The session begins with a comprehensive one-hour introduction to the essentials of dog grooming. This initial period also provides a valuable opportunity for your dog to acclimatize to the environment and settle before the practical work starts.

 

While all necessary professional equipment is provided, you are welcome to bring any personal tools you own. We can review these with you to determine their suitability for your dog's specific needs.

Course Curriculum

• Performing health checks and identifying key physical indicators.

• Using positive reinforcement to introduce your dog to grooming tools.

• Selecting the ideal shampoo based on skin and coat requirements.

• Effective bathing techniques for a professional finish.

• Proper hand-drying methods to prepare the coat correctly.

• Best practices for safe pad trimming and nail clipping.

• Guidance on executing a short pet trim (please note breed standard styling is excluded).

• Safe and correct handling protocols for both owner and pet.

Prerequisites and Requirements

​

To participate, delegates must bring a dog that meets the following criteria:

• The dog must be comfortable with the grooming process and other dogs.

• The coat must be in good health and entirely free of matting or knots. Failure to meet this requirement will result in removal from the course without a refund.

• A maximum of six weeks of coat growth is permitted. If uncertain, please provide a photo or video for assessment.

 

Welfare is our priority; if a dog shows signs of distress, the course will be stopped immediately. Instruction focuses exclusively on short pet trims using clippers; hand stripping and breed-specific standards are not covered.

Important Terms

This course is for personal use only and does not qualify you to offer professional grooming services. Fees are non-refundable. For group sessions, a £100 deposit is required once the class is full, with the remaining balance due two weeks before the course date.
